All-Franchise Strat-O-Matic Baseball League
League Background and Assorted Rules
This league features 12 teams, made up of the best players to play for the franchise since 1968. Basically, I took all the cards I had, which included teams back as far as 1968, and managers chose their teams. The only restrictions were: no batter could be chosen with fewer than 175 at-bats; and no pitcher could start a game, unless he had 100 innings pitched. Also, no player could appear on more than one team - so, managers had to "vote" on the more impressive year for contested players.
Other deviations included doing away with the Relief Pitcher rest rule; instead mandating that relievers could pitch in two out of every three-game series; or one game in a two-game series. We also instituted something called the "Slump Rule":
Whenever a player starts half his team's games in a week, and goes hitless in more than half of the games he starts, he is considered to be “in a slump.” However, receiving two non-intentional base-on-balls shall be the equivalent of a hit (i.e., going 0-2 with 2 BBs, will NOT count as “hitless.” The effects are as follows:
All 6, 7, and 8 rolls on the batter card - if NOT already an out - are changed to a flyball C. The reason for this, is the Flyball C allows no runners to advance, and does not unrealistically affect the batter or pitcher strikeout totals.
Once the batter gets a hit, or two walks in a game, the slump is over until the next time he meets the above requirements in a given week. Otherwise, the manager can COMPLETELY rest the player for three games and the slump will be over when the player returns. If you play the player in ANY capacity in the games, the game does not count as a rested game. He can bat in between games - in a slump but the slump will not be over until he has rested for three games.
